I grew up with a sister that has special needs. She was born when I was 8 years old. I have seen first-hand what a family endures with support staff in the home, as well as what constitutes a good caregiver. I lived the day to day life of a family member of a disabled relative. I know there is no such thing as "easy". I have seen the short comings of the current systems and I am excited to help others find the proper support they need and deserve.
Experience: I worked within the Home Care industry for 5 years. I am a United States Army Disabled Veteran and I have learned critical experience and values that I live my life by to this day. I was in charge of 5 soldiers, it was my responsibility to be in charge of their safety, well-being, and making sure that they had the necessities to achieve their goals as a soldier and as a person. This is where my experiences and management skills will help me adapt and overcome challenges. It also gives me the abilities to make sure that goals are reached and the overall mission is going to succeed.
I am a 2003 graduate of NUHS and a 2016 graduate of MSU Mankato. I have a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Minor in Human Service Management. I also have an Associates degree in Criminal Justice.
I have a daughter, Amanda, that has “special needs”. Amanda is in her mid-twenties. I know what it is like to have (and not have) help with her cares. We (my wife, Marion, and I) have been through many trials and tribulations throughout the years, with Amanda, in dealing with medical, physical and mental needs for her. In the past, we had very good caregivers and some not so good. Some thought that it was a glorified "baby-sitting" job, which it is not. We do have problems in getting good quality caregiver staff, needed for Amanda.
I am currently a retired 3M New Ulm Minnesota Manufacturing Process Engineer, for whom I worked for almost 38 years. My responsibilities for my assigned products were to design, support and write processes, maintain cost analysis and cost reductions.
I did design improvements based upon the customer’s needs / requirements. I also Interfaced with the following disciplines at 3M: office (both local and in corporate office) - Management, Sourcing, Quality, Engineering, Field Tech Service, internal and external suppliers, and production personnel.
Throughout the years I have acquired a business sense. By being true to our values, I feel that LDR will be the place to work and the place to obtain caregiver staffing.
I am a New Ulm native and a 2000 graduate from NUHS. After high school I moved to Florida and I pursued a degree in Marine Biology/Biochemistry from the University of Tampa. During my time in Tampa I volunteered at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) and my homework projects consisted of snorkeling trips. During my junior year in college my family had some serious health issues arise and it became clear that I was going to need to move back home. My parents graciously convinced me to not drop out of college, but to finish my time in Florida. I changed my degree to something I would be able to use back in MN. I graduated in 2004 with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Environmental Science.
Upon moving back to New Ulm, I found a job working as a paraprofessional in Special Education. I loved that job. But having summers off without work wouldn’t work to satisfy my student loan payments. I found a job working in home care. I never really thought about working in the Human Services industry. I enjoyed the appeal of helping others though. I worked 1:1 with mostly children. After a year in the field I had enough experience to be promoted to a Program Coordinator. I continued doing some part time direct care while working as a supervisor writing goals for clients on the DD and CADI waiver programs. Eventually I was promoted to Program Director. After 13 years with the company I was looking to take the next step. When the LDR Executive Director opportunity arose I knew this was it.

I am a native of Redwood Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School. I started college at Southwest State University in Marshall. I left to start a family. I worked as a restaurant manager, for many years, then shifting to work in the human services industry for the next 20 years. I spent my time working in group homes, community work sites, and the community itself. I also spent some time working in an Alzheimer’s program. I have worked mainly in a community based day program, doing DT&H, for the last 9 years. We worked at a piece rate production job, meaning my peers were paid based on the number of pieces they completed. It was my job to assure that my peers were continuously working to achieve their own personal goals, and achieving multi step production. My peers job was to take magnets out of material used for appliances, windows, and many other products. I always loved watching my peers faces, as the pride showed in mastering the next step, or when their numbers were met of their own personal goal. One of my tasks was training my peers for competitive employment. I was personally responsible for a community based DT&H program, of up to 10 adults at any given time. We worked, as a team, in factory setting. I am very proud of the job we created and maintained. I managed my peers, and assisted them with their needs. Keeping a safe and happy environment, was one of my main priorities.
I look forward to what we will have to offer and what we will be able to provide to our recipients. This opportunity is something I have waited for and am very blessed to have.
